BackStop 10 Gallon Backstop Thermal Expansion Tank (Almond w/ 3/4" SS System Connection)
Product Overview
The BackStop 12-A110 is a 10-gallon precharged thermal expansion tank for compatible closed potable-water systems. When water is heated, its volume increases. In a system where a check valve, pressure-reducing valve, or backflow device prevents that expanded volume from moving back toward the supply, pressure can rise rapidly. The tank provides a sealed air cushion that accepts the expanded water and helps keep system pressure within the intended operating range.
A fixed butyl diaphragm separates the water from the precharged air chamber, while an FDA-grade polypropylene liner helps prevent water from contacting the carbon-steel shell. The almond-finished tank includes a 3/4 in. 304 stainless steel system connection, a 35 PSI factory precharge, and a 150 PSI maximum design pressure. Correct sizing and precharge adjustment depend on water-heater capacity, supply pressure, temperature, and system configuration.
Key Features:
- 10-gallon thermal expansion tank
- Fixed butyl diaphragm
- Polypropylene water-side liner
- Carbon-steel shell
- 3/4 in. stainless steel connection
Technical Specifications:
- Height: 20 in.
- Diameter: 11-1/2 in.
- Factory Precharge: 35 PSI
- Maximum Design Pressure: 150 PSI
- Maximum Design Temperature: 200°F
- Finish: Almond
Installation Notes:
Install on the cold-water side of a compatible water-heating system. Confirm tank sizing, support, orientation, precharge, and local plumbing requirements before installation.
FAQ:
Why is an expansion tank needed?
It absorbs expanded water volume in a closed system to help control pressure rise.
Should the precharge be checked?
Yes. It should be matched to the system's cold static pressure as directed by the manufacturer.
